I understand if you don't want your pets to mate, but why is there such strong feelings connect with people who are always saying "Spay and Neuter your pets!" like its a moral responsibility to castrate your dog! I just don't get it.

  1. Spaying and neutering is soo important, there are way too many animals in the world; strays die on the street (being hit by cars, ect.) but they also die in shelters because there is not enough room for all of them. It is such an important thing to do, I can't even tell you how much it is. Also, when the animals go into heat, they are very uncomfortable, and they bleed all over the place, it's just a bad idea

  2. aside from breeding issues, is is a health issue too.

females who are NOT used for breeding can and likely will get ovarian cancer.

males can get testicular cancer too.

males can be more aggressive if left intact, neutering decreases the dogs desire to mate, also decreasing the dogs need to compete for a mate.

a dog that does not feel the need to "prove himself" to every other dog is much easier to live with and train.

  3. For cats (at least), they are MUCH easier to live with if they are neutered.  A male cat will mark his territory (including things that you REALLY don't want marked), and a female cat in heat is a yowling nuisance.

  4. if people didnt spay and neuter there pets then there would be an overpopulation of pets,(there already is)...so more of one

  5. Take a visit to the Humane Society and you will see all of the unwanted cats and dogs.  Then it might be easier to understand.

  6. If you go up to www.petfinder.com you will get it...  A lot of people allow their animals to breed un-controlled and it results in thousands of animals being put to death every year.  It is very sad to see innocent animals being euthanized (and in some places, not in a very nice way!) when it could have been prevented if someone had committed to spaying and neutering.  It sounds cruel, but it really does save lives.  Also, animals that have not been altered are more likely to wander looking for a mate and that leads to lost pets, injured pets and all kinds of things that is just not good for the animal.  I am not saying that ALL people who do not spay and neuter are irresponsible, but I am saying there are a lot of animals that would not be in the shelter on death row if people spayed and neutered...

  7. Neutered dogs are easier to train and are less aggressive. There are also some health problems that unaltered dogs can have. If your dog impregnates someone else's dog they might not be too happy with you. Or if your dog gets pregnant and dies from complications you would be upset. There are a lot more reasons to fix your dogs than to leave them intact.

  8. Go to your local pound or shelter, ask somebody that works there how many perfectly healthy dogs and cats they euthanize a week, then you will answer your own question.  Thousands of cats and dogs die in shelters everyday.  Spaying and neutering prevents needless deaths, it is that simple.

  9. Just think about all of the homeless pets out there who are starving and without shelter because somone didn't care enough to spay or neuter their animal to prevent stuff like that from happening. It is very important to do this, and i would suggest everyone get their pets done.

  10. hi..a police man told me a story bout this the other day..back in the 1960s there used to be dogs and cats roaming the streets..one time a little girl ran after her dog and  a car hit her.. ,the cop i met held her till she died.which is a result of laws for spaying and keeping pets on a leash...also i believe for populations sake, dogs and cats might over populate one day and take over mankind !! just kidding..just wanted to make light of the poor lil girl..
