Why TIME Magazine claims that "The recent earthquake in Sichuan of China was a reply from God to Chinese"?!

Recently I heard that some western people (especially Americans) believe that the recent grievious earthquacke in China has been a "reply" from "God" to Chinese! I'm not a Chinese and not a good believer! However I have wondered why the well known magazine like TIME or some famous persons in a developed country who regards humanity and human rights, may become superstitious like this!, while we all know that earthquake dosen't come from heaven (it comes from earth!), it has the certain scientific reasons as same as many natural events. Furthermore, why God should be so cruel like this to kill up to 70,000 men, women and children whose lives are nothing to do with politics! This morning I heard that Mrs. Sharon Stone also said some similar words about "earthquake, China and the reply from God"! I just like to know your idea...Thank you and thanks God !!!

It's very unfortunate that all those had to die in such a horrible disaster, it's nobody's fault, but I truly believe in karma, except this time karma landed on the wrong people. In the bible, it says Vengeance is for god to take not man, and even though I am strongly saddened by the death of so many innocent children, I still believe in karma...

I haven't read that, but it is crazy if they said it or even printed it.  God has nothing to do with earthquakes.

Well i've heard that the Americans started it with this machine.

They recorded rainbow clouds 30 minutes before the earthquake happened, the machine does this.

First of all I wouldn't listen to a thing Miss Sharon Stone said. Sometimes in the bible natural disasters were a part of punishment for godless societies. I don't think God chose to kill 70'000 people in China. I believe that John 10:10 is relevant here.
