  1. The Sahara desert along with other major desert areas of the world are like this because of the dominance of the subtropical high. High pressure systems are anticyclones, which are a mechanism where there is upper air convergence, sinking motion, and surface divergence. Since its a sinking motion, clouds and precipitation are unable to form. Winds are light or calm because air moves from high pressure to low pressure. Vegetation can't grow because there is no rain. Without rain or a nearby source of water, such as a river, vegetation cannot grow.


  2. Areas of high pressure are like the opposite of low pressure areas.    Lows have a lot of lifting and that forms cloud and rain.  Highs have air that sinks and that does not allow for lifting or clouds..
