As far as I can see, they are quite inexpensive (less than $200 each).  Other types of exams, like the Bar exam to become a lawyer, may cost 10x as much.  If you are going to be going to another country and studying for several years in a country which charges tuition as high as that in the U.S., this is a minimal amount.
