Why Torii Hunter is looking forward to a memorable time in Detroit – MLB News

Major Leaguers and the Detroit Tigers’ owner Mike Ilitch know why outfielder Torii Hunter is in Detroit. Hunter has accomplished almost everything in his Major League Baseball career except for winning a World Series ring.
However, there are other advantages to being back in the American League Central Division. The outfielder played five straight seasons for the Los Angeles Angels and it was an ideal time for him to move back to the time zone that is perfect for him.
Being in Detroit, he will be able to call his wife when she is not asleep. There is much more than that, of course. Hunter will also have an excellent chance to spend some quality time with his son Torii Jr.
"It's a better time zone. I can call my wife when she's not asleep," Hunter said Friday. "'Hello, what are you doing? Why are you calling me so late?' I can call her and she's gonna be up."
Torii Jr. has been recently been included to play by a football team (Notre Dame), just three hours drive from Detroit. There were rumours that the only reason Hunter wanted to sign a contract with the Tigers was the fact his son lived in Detroit and he
did not undervalue the factor.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Hunter stated that since he will be only a couple of hours away from his son, he can go out there to hang out with him for the day or his son can come to see him when he has time.
"I am only two-and-a-half, three hours away from my son," said Hunter, 37. "Not just talking about catching football games, but on a day off I can go out there and hang out with him for a day, and we can have lunch or we can talk. Or he can come here when
he has time."
Hunter has already called his union with the Tigers ‘a perfect marriage’. When Hunter visited Detroit last week, Tigers’ officials did not waste any time in offering him a contract as they also want an accomplished player to solve their outfield problems.
It will be interesting to see if the two can prove to be a perfect match in the next season.
