Why UFC Light Heavyweight category is suitable for Jon Jones? – UFC Special
The American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Jon Jones has been an MMA fighter since 2008. He is one of the most dominant light heavyweight fighters in MMA. In 2008 he also made his much anticipated UFC debut where he was again
successful in making an impact inside the UFC octagon ring.
Jones, nicknamed Bones, has been thinking to leave the light heavyweight division and enter another weight category. One wonders if he would try his prospects in the heavyweight category, because he has the potential to be a strong
heavyweight contender. Some rumours did spread in the UFC community that Jones might be leaving the light heavyweight division but these are just unconfirmed reports. Jones, the 24-year-old MMA fighter from Rochester, New York has stated that he has no intentions
to move in another weight category in the near future.
There is more than one reason why Jones would not be willing to enter the heavyweight division. First, Jones has been fighting in the light heavyweight division ever since he made his debut in April 2008 against Brad Bernard. Jones
won the bout by a technical knockout (TKO) in the first round. Second, Jones has lost only one fight in his entire MMA career and has won fifteen bouts. Third, he won nine straight fights when he began his MM career. After his one and only loss by the hands
of Matt Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale in December 2009, Jones resumed his winning streak.
He has won six consecutive bouts after his defeat, giving him a strong stance inside the ring against all of his opponents. Fourth, Jones won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in March 2011 at UFC 128 by defeating a strong
champion in the form of Mauricio Rua through a technical knockout (TKO) with his knee strikes and punches. Since that win, Jones has successfully defended his UFC title twice. He defended his title against Quinton Jackson at UFC 135 in September 2011 and later
against Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 in December 2011.
Currently, Jones is reigning the UFC Light Heavyweight division and it would be foolish on his part to enter in another weight category. What Jones needs to focus in on his winning streak. He lost the first and only bout of his
career because of his own actions. He used the illegal elbow strikes, also called the 12-to-6 elbow strikes on Matt Hamill. Had he not been desperate to win the bout, he would have never used this banned move over Hamill.
Reports were circulating in the MMA and UFC division that Jones could possibly switch between weight classes but all claims were straight away rejected by Jones himself. Talking to the media, Jones said, "I have no intentions of
moving out of my division any time soon. I feel like there's plenty of work to be done in the light heavyweight division."
Jones was also asked to move into the heavyweight category by the CEO of UFC, Dana White. According to White, he thinks that Jones has the capability to not only move into the heavyweight division but he can prove his worth in
the higher weight class with ease.  At the moment, Jones is a successful and dominant MMA fighter in the UFC light heavyweight division.
It may be the case that if he loses his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in the future, only then he can think of entering the heavyweight category. Otherwise, until he is the light heavyweight champion, he is enjoying being
the biggest shark in his division.
