U.S. Constitution, the form of government we follow, democracy.  There's 3 branches, there's a balance of power to prevent any one branch from becoming oppressive or tyrannical.

  13. The USA fought a War of Independence, breaking away from British ruler in 1776. The US started off as a colony from England, but, the US was being unfairly taxed and received no political benefits;"No taxation without representation" is a famous quote from the time. The US is a republic, run by a president, congress and senate.

The UK and NORTHERN Ireland are constitutional monarchies,so they are ruled by a monarch, the present one happens to be Queen Elizabeth II.The constitutional monarchy works for them;the people are represented by their Prime Minister and Parliament.

  14. America is still considred a young country.

  16. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a constitutional monarchy with an unwritten constitution based on tradition, slowly evolving over time.  Four separate constituent countries (or historically separate entities) make up the UK: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland--not to mention a lot of surrounding smaller islands. In recent years, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland each also have won the right to elect unicameral legislatures and have their own executives.

Constitutional monarchies--such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Japan--are democratic countries who elect representatives to a parliamentary body, known in the UK's case as the House of Commons; however, part of the executive power, which is now mostly ceremonial, resides in the hands of the monarchy, or else the Prime Minister and his or her Cabinet act on behalf of an hereditary king or queen.  One feature of government in the UK is the House of Lords, whose members are hereditary, ecclesiastical, or life peers. The power of the Lords to reject a bill passed by the House of Commons is severely limited.  However, in March 2007, the House moved to elect representatives to the Lords, but the Lords refused to abolish their hereditary rights.

Both Ireland (or officially Eire) and the United States are Republican forms of government who won their independence from the UK in 1922 and 1783 respectively.  A written constitution in both Eire and the US took the executive branch of government out of the control of an hereditary monarchy.

  17. Ireland is a Republic, it has no King or Queen.

The UK has a Queen.  Its just part of our culture.  We have never changed from a Monarchy to a Republic.

America was established as a Republic and never had a Monarchy.

  18. I thought David & Victoria were your new King & Queen.

  19. We don't need a king because we already have one right now. Think about it.

  20. Quite sad to note that many replies don't know that The United Kingdom is a democracy! Our form of government, Constitutional Monarchy, one of the world's oldest,

    is democratic.

  21. schWARzenegger ll b president of the USA n me, the King William V, ll conquer jerusalem

  22. cuz USA is a democracy -your "King & Queen" are figureheads only.  they are supported by your tax money while the Prime Minister and other government officers are in charge.

  23. America has none because they are a democracy, rather than a monarchy. The equivalent of a queen or king is technically a president, although his actions are reflective of the people he represents.

  24. Ireland does not have a King or Queen for the same reason America doesn't. They are both Republics. The UK is a constitutional monarchy because so far they haven't voted to get rid of royal family. The UK, Ireland and the US are all democracies. It seems some of your other respondants are confusing the word "democracy" with the word "republic."

  25. Ireland does not have a king or queen.

  26. We Americans take great pride in choosing the people who s***w us over.      Are you serious ?  Go read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence.  Or perhaps a history book.   Come on man, what kind of p***y would continuously take the c**p that piece of work King George was throwing at us.  Sorry UK, Canada, Australia and all the others who didn't bolt.   But in consolation to the other children of the greatest empire, we now have Bush.  Circle of life to be sure.  God help us all.

  27. Because it's a republic?

  28. Ireland hasn't had kings and queens for hundreds of years (when they still had tribes).  The UK's monarchy is ceremonial/traditional.  They have a parliamentary government with a Prime Minister in charge.

America's govt. was created by people who were irritated by the actions of England's King.  Therefore, the last thing they wanted to create was another monarchy.

  29. Declaration of Independence 1776

And I take it you're from Northern Ireland.
