  1. Its fun .. thats why.

  2. The official stance on this is that we continue to manufacture weapons grade anthrax so we can study it and develop countermeasures, such as an effective antidote.

  3. Why do we have nuclear weapons?

I don't know of any international law stating that a government can not have anthrax. There are some treaties that limit things like that, but the US has not signed any treaties that outright forbid us from having anthrax.

  4. no,

We need it so that we can study it, and so that we can stock anti-serums

  5. Anthrax is a naturally occurring common bacteria.  The major powers used a weaponized form of it for a short period of period in an attempt to build bioweapons, but their efficacy is suspect.

You may as well try to ban the common cold through common sense and international laws.

  6. Yeah we now ban naturally growing bacteria.

  7. Use of it is banned but the simple fact is that not all nations signed the agreement; the US does not have a stockpile but has some because to make a antidote/cure for it requires the germs to test it.  Anthrax is a common germ but the "weaponized" versions have been strengthened and altered to be more deadly.  They CDC keeps thousands of deadly viruses "in stock" for the same reason-you can't cure a flu strain unless you have it to work with and other viruses they are still trying to figure out how to cure (Ebola as an example).  Germ warfare is the scariest form of WMD warfare and unfortunately the easiest to manufacture ordevelope.  Yes it scares me worse then nuclear or chemical and would have the highest chance if ever used to exterminate the human race.

  8. It's naturally occurring and people and and animals have gotten infected natually.  The U.S. is keeping up with a cure.
