  1. We do but very few of them have the "power" to make a major impact. And they often seem to have agendas that are WAY out there so the American public dismisses them outright.

  2. isn't once every four years enough

  3. We have a lot of political parties but only two have ever been dominated at any one time.  Since there is no law stating there will one by two major parties I believe it is because our system of government makes two major parties more likely

  4. The US has at least a dozen political parties, ignoramus.

  5. Because the US is on many aspects the least democratic nation on earth and the two traditional parties control all the powers and position to make it virtually impossible for any bother party to reach a national level

Always remember that the US two party system is but one party more than a friggin DICTATORSHIP .

  6. We do.

  7. We do, but in most cases the Republican and Democrats, are general enough to include a wide range of political views.

  8. The US has many political parties, but they are absolutely terrible at politics.

You have the relatively mainstream ones:

The Green Party thinks that getting rid of our nuclear weapons and expecting other countries to do the same is a good idea.

The Libertarians think abortion should be legal and welfare should be eliminated, and therefore appeal to neither conservatives nor liberals.

The Constitution Party wants to eliminate the income tax and federal funding of schools.

    And then the bizarre:

The National Socialist Movement (neo-n***s) are too busy playing dress up and waving around swastikas to engage in anything other than a token effort.

The Socialist Workers Party (Communists) keep nominating a non-US citizen for president.

And The Revolutionary Communist Party is too busy planning the next Bolshevik Revolution to put anyone up for election.

  9. the two major parties won't allow it..they work closely together on things like this

  10. We have 5 or 6 or some thing like that.

    Regards.

  11. There are many "minor parties" in the US, but most have almost no influence at a national level and still only very little in local politics. The US system is dominated by the two parties because of the way the government is set up. In particular, because of the great amount of power concentrated in the office of president.

Think about it- suppose you started a new country with the exact same form of government as the United States but without the two party system. Perhaps at the beginning there would be many parties all putting forward presidential candidates, but then perhaps a few parties that were fairly close idealogically would band together and have one candidate between them. If all the other parties still only had one candidate each obviously this new coalition party would have a great advantage. Thus the originally diverse collection of parties would slowly evolve into a two party system.

This doesn't happen in other countries which have a parliamentary system because there is no single powerful office like the president that is nationally elected. Thus there can be more parties that are favored in different areas of the country, and campaign locally to get elected to the parliament.

  12. Republics like to offer one choice and call that freedom..  Really there is little between them and more parties would require deeper brainwashing programs throughout school.

  13. We have a lot actually, here is a list of many:
