Why Use Text Messaging Abbreviations Here?

Why do lots of people on here type using text abbreviations? I don't have anything against text messaging on phones but I think it's just wierd using it here.

People are lazy is all. Since the dawn of time people have always found ways of messing up the english language.

People use it here because they're either too lazy to type a whole word or they're so used to texting that it's become a habit.
