  1. The Aswan Dam was built by President Nassar of Egypt in the 1960's in order to provide hydro-electricity to the people of the lower/middle Nile area in order to grow crops.  There are a series of dams, building up to the biggest Answar Dam.  Also created other large lakes that weren't there before hand.

Just have a look at Wikipedia if for a school test

  2. The Aswan Dam was built on the first cataract of the Nile river. There are actually two Dams that straddle the river there, they are the Aswan high dam and the older Aswan dam. The older dam is sometimes known as the low dam. The dams were built to control flooding in that part of the Nile River basin and to also help in the production of hydroelectric power and also provide water for the areas agriculture. The dam powers twelve hydro-power plants that today account for about 15% of Egypts total power supply. They have also spared that region a few times from serious drought buy redirecting water to the area.
