Why Washington Wizards should acquire Arron Afflalo: NBA Feature
Like all other teams of National Basketball Association, Washington Wizards will also be rearing to lift their rankings when the next season tips-off on the Christmas night.
Under the new amnesty clause, the Wizards will most probably waive off 32 years old forward Rashard Lewis to create some space in the salary cap and if that happens, the Wizards will have to find his replacement in order to strengthen
their wing position. The other option, guard/forward Nick Young is also a restricted free agent and if the Wizards don’t re-sign him, then they’ll be left with just rookie Chris Singleton.
To fill the gap Washington requires someone who doesn’t just possesses the skills, but also have some experience under his belt. This makes Arron Afflalo, who is a restricted free agent with the Denver Nuggets, a super option for
the Wizards, as the 6-foot-5 is just 26 years old and has an experience of four years in NBA.
With Arron Afflalo it wouldn’t be necessary for the Wizards to bid adieu to Young, as the addition of the two solid long range shooters would only give Washington an added advantage over their rivals. Arron is only getting better
with every passing season. He scored at an average of 12.6 points along with 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season and with more freedom he can certainly increase his numbers.
Even these stats make Afflalo a hot commodity and he wouldn’t be short of suitors come the free agency. However for the Wizards, he is a key because not only can he complement Young and fill the void left by Rashard, but under
his supervision, the young Singleton can also evolve his game.
By re-signing Young and landing in Afflalo, Washington would also be able to cut down the burden on the shoulders of their star offensive player, John Wall. Both Afflalo and Young’s distant shooting will facilitate Wall in finding
in roads into the opposition defences and who know, that might be the catalyst Wall needs to start something special.
Moreover, what makes Afflalo and Wall a perfect match is that Arron doesn’t prefer keeping the ball just to himself and therefore, would be happy to assist John. Apart from his excellent shooting skills from beyond the arc, Afflalo
maintains 49 percent shooting rate from the field too.
All these factors sum up beautifully for the Wizards and Afflalo’s inclusion would give them the much needed boost.
