Why Winnipeg?

First off, I'd like to say that I don't have a clue about football and I don't follow it at all but I have a question that's been nagging at me for a bit now. If the BC and Montreal are playing each other then why are they playing in Winnipeg?

  1. The Grey Cup is always held at a neutral site, and teams bid to host it, just like how they decide the host city of the Super Bowl.

  2. Where the Grey cup is going to be held is decided before the year starts, to make it easier to organize the events.  It has nothing to do with what teams are playing

    Go Montreal go

  3. Eoas and Colin:  The Grey Cup's host city isn't decided in the same manner as the Super Bowl.  The Super Bowl's host city is decided in the same manner as the Grey Cup.

Grey Cup = 94 years old

Super Bowl = 40 years old

  4. The site of the Grey Cup is not dependent upon who finished first in the Western and Eastern Conferences. Rather, the site for each year's Grey Cup is decided well in advance (obviously at least one year in advance so the city and its population can plan the game and all the associated activities related to the game. )

  5. It's like the superbowl, they have a lottery the previous year and one city gets to host the Grey Cup.  I think that helps teams that dont perform as well in some years as they get income coming in from the Grey Cup anyways.
