Why a mountain seems to be black if you are looking at it from a far distance??

  2. light refraction and reflection, just from its basic shape, the reflecting light is going anywhere other than where it counts, in your eyes, making its form seem dark, ominous.  in literature or poetry you never hear of bright shiny hills or mountains, its always purple  or black or vergent (dark green) etc
