Why acetone flammable?

  1. First, it is a hydrocarbon so it is flammable like any other hydrocarbon, such as wood.  What makes it dangerous is that it is a small molecule so it evaporates very fast and vapors can build up to explosive levels before you know it.   Wood is not as dangerous because it does not evaporate at room temperature so is harder to ignite.  If you heat wood it will decompose into smaller flammable gases also.
