Because a women needs time to heal. After vaginal birth a woman needs time for her insides to go back to normal, not to mention the vaginal bleeding that will occur for a couple of weeks after the birth.

After c-sections, a woman needs to keep pressure off her lower abdomen, avoid strenuous activity and still bleeds for a few weeks. It is best to avoid intercourse until the doctor says it is ok.
