Why aint my screen recorder working?

i am trying to use a screen recorder to film me playing pc games so i can add it to youtube but everytime i record my game screen gos black then when i cancel record it gos normal..

cmiiw, i think this is same problem about capture to make a screenshot with Windows Media Player.

Uncheck option "Use Overlays"

you can find on Menu, Tools --> Options --> (tabs) Performance --> advanced
