Being a southerner myself, I can spot a phony a mile away.

Using "ain't" (which any teacher will tell you "ain't proper") will associate you with the south, but never using the term auto racing.  Around here, it's NASCAR.  It's a nascar race, not an auto race.  That's reserved for LeMans type races.

And the answer is the racers make too much money racing the circuit to waste their time racing in the Olympics for free.

Only one sport in Olympics involved animal. That sport is equestrian. I was thinking it seems odd. Why include an motorised item.

Because one of the rules for Olympic Sports is that no sport may rely on mechanical propulsion.

This includes all auto racing events. as well as motorcycle racing, snowmobiling, and more.

I'm not arguing why shooting is an Olympic Sport, I don't agree with that either, nor do I agree with Archery as it exists now, with all the mechanical sights and whatnot.

The fact is that the rule exists.

lol!!  Whoever said only 2% of the southern states are interested in auto racing don't know much about he world racing scene. Which is HUGE. and WAY bigger than 'NASCAR'. Though, American stock car racing is growing very fast.

Still... It's not an Olympic sport even if it does take more out of you mentally and physically than some other Olympic 'sports' (ping-pong and ribbon dancing, I'm looking in your direction.)

So, I'm not an advocate of adding it, but i certainly could see how one could make an argument given some of the other 'sports' that are currently in the games. That, plus auto racing has international appeal as well anyone ever hear of the F1 World Tour? People race cars all over the place, and it is a demanding sport... One in which you could possibly be killed if you mess up for even a split second at the wrong time. That's more than I can say for hitting a little white ball across a table.

For all those saying Olympics is not about using machines.. it's about "human power". What do you say to shooting? There are many shooting events. They aim and pull a trigger... Certainly Auto-racing is more athletic, more demanding on the mind and body, than that.

BTW: A gun uses 'mechanical propulsion' that in basic principal (containing and harnessing the power of a chemical reaction to do work) is very similar to a cars engine....

Olympic sports are about human speed, endurance and agility. Auto racing is motorized therefore it is not allowed. Additionally, what for of auto racing are you thinking of, NASCAR, F1, Drag racing, Indy car, funny car, stock car ????. The Olympic venues cost billions now can u imagine what it would cost to include race tracks ?.

Probably nobody ever thought of asking.  Besides, the Olympics emphasizes the human body mostly (except for equestrian events) and even the sports involving machines (BMX) are human powered.  If you like racing, you probably would've like the mountain biking events (both men and women).  It was exciting and tough.  Tough on us US tv viewers bc it was at 2 am on the west coast.
