If you go to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) web site they do the medal count based on the Gold Medals, this is the official ranking.

Are they trying to made the wrong impression that USA its in first place?

  1. OMG get the h**l over it already...We ALL know china has More freaking gold medals and thats great! they are showing that the USA has most OVERALL Medals.

  2. OMG, this question.......again. My god this is getting old.  Someone give these foreigners a hobby.

  3. I already answered this somewhere else, but this seems to be the only answer that makes sense and hundreds of people have asked the question.

    There needs to be some sort of point system associated with the medals. An example of this would be:

    Gold = 10 points

    Silver = 5 points

    Bronze = 1 point

    If you use this point system with today's medal count, you would get the following:

    China:

    41 Golds = 410 points

    17 Silvers = 80 points

    25 Bronzes = 25 points

    TOTAL = 515 points

    US

    31 Golds = 310 points

    36 Silvers = 180 points

    35 Bronzes = 35 points

    TOTAL = 525 points

    Of course, the points associated with each medal can be debated, but I would think that a system such as this is entirely appropriate to award athletes for winning at least some sort of medal. If no value is given for anything other than gold, then why would there be silver and bronze medals?

  4. Nobody cares. It's all the same information, regardless of the order it goes in.

  5. they like it better that way but I am tired of this question

    Blaze: silver and bronze medals are included in the traditional method as well so it could not be called the "Gold medal count".

  6. Because it is the US media and we can do whatever we want. Maybe next time we will have the country with the least # of medals first....would that make you happy.

    two thumbs down shows that some people aren't happy no matter what.

  7. Ya know, this question has been asked an awful lot.
