Question:

Why allow Rugby to be self destructive?

As a Mexican, it amazes me that Rugby is divided into Union and League. Doesn't this mean that devotees of one code hate the others, and the Rugby take from the public is split in two? Isn't Union the only real international Rugby code?

  1. Rugby and Rugby league are very different codes. Like Aussie rules and Gaelic football. The only things they have in common are some of the rules and one big things that everyone gets confused with. They both have "Rugby" in there names. So they are "dived" because of the same reason Rugby and Soccer are dived. They are all different.   But don't worry. Even Victorians get confuse, and they are in a very Rugby League country. Although Vics aren't too smart in my opinion (my mates wouldn't like me saying that)

  2. Don't let it bother you too much. They are two different games. Rugby union is played worldwide and has always been the most popular game. It all comes down to loyalty in the end. You will decide for yourself which is the better code and which one should be the only code. Rugby union for me anytime!

  3. They're a completely different sports with a different set of rules and appeal to different supporters though there are a lot that would support both.

To the person below: If league is more attractive, why is it that Union  is more popular?

  4. Depends what you are comparing it to, Union has Large international appeal, League not so large but still MILES ahead of AFL LOL.

  5. Because rugby union has been envious and jealous of its better, more attractive League cousin.

Union is for obese players, League is for the fitter, stronger players and thus gets better coverage.

Union is a sport based on lies. They never give accurate attendance figures for game, for example.

  6. what are you on about union is a sport based on lies?? attendance records??? WHAT???? Union is played by real men who don't mind getting hurt!!!

The reason why it split into two was because when leasgue started some players couldn't get onto the first team.  They aslo didn't like the way things were run, so they decided to create their own league.

It's just purely two different styles of the game.  I personally perfer union, because more happens in the game. And because i've been rasied in a house where union was always on.  In league it is harder to get the ball from the opposition.
