  1. Don't know where these contributors got the "fact" that Anne contracted syphilis from Henry. If this were so, would the subsequent wife Jane Seymour not also have contracted it and miscarried the son Edward?

Anne Boleyn's mother had a large number of pregnancies in the first ten years of the 1500s, so many that historians are not sure when Anne, Mary and George Boleyn were born.Thomas. their father, bemoaning his poverty, said of his wife Elizabeth "Every year she gave me a child." Whether these pregnancies resulted in miscarriage or stillbirth or neo natal death, it indicates that the family trend was to unsuccessful pregnancies.

Add this to a family like Henry's, with a similar pattern of few healthy children among many pregnancies, and the theory of blood characteristics - Rhesus negative and positive, as someone has said above - makes a LOT of sense. And I have been told by a blood specialist that Celts and Northern English have more than their share of Rh negative blood types - Henry's dad was Welsh and mum mainly of Northern English stock.

PS your use of the term aborted is medically correct, miscarriage is a gentler term used mainly in polite conversation.

  2. the babies were the spawn of the devil, so she had no choice.

  3. Anne Boleyn did not have abortions, in the sense of making elective decisions to terminate pregnancy.  She miscarried several pregnancies, which may have been because of venereal infections contracted from Henry VIII.

  4. Anne Boleyn did not have abortions. She had miscarriages and stillbirths. It was her primary aim to produce an heir for the British throne. Where on earth did you hear that?

Edit: @ Freebird, I reckon she was actually the best Monarch we ever had, what do you say?

  5. She did not. Her first child with King Henry VIII grew up to be Queen Elizabeth I, the greatest queen we ever had in History, till now.

  6. if she did it was by spontaneous abortion which is the name for a miscarriage under 3 months medically ...............so it will depend which books you have been reading about Anne as to how the  pregnancy has been discribed

  7. There are theories that Anne and Henry VIII may have had different Rh blood factors.  This causes the first born child to live, but the mother then develops antibodies for the following children and all following children will be aborted or born dead.

Another theory is that because Anne Boleyn was thin, she didn't have enough body fat to carry a baby to term.  After she became Queen, she became even more nervous, and was called "that old thin woman" by the Spanish Ambassador.

  8. The miscarriages were the fault of Henry VIII who had a sexually transmitted disease(syphilis). The disease was passed on to Anne, making the health of the fetuses precarious and more likely to miscarry.
