I am an asian living in an asia, currently studying in 11th grade.

I am average looking and short. I seem to inherit the worst genes from my parents- asthma, square face etc. My mum is prettier, more curvy and taller( including my dad) than me. Furthermore, I am the shortest in my entire family clan (maternal and paternal).

I am not really smart either, my dad always criticises me for lacking common sense and sometimes, I doubt I even have a brain. My lack of intelligence is also reflected by my grades- a string of E because I can't seem to focus in class.

I don't have an aim in my life...it's like there's no motivation to drive me anywhere. All I know is that I like fashion and I want to work in an MNC so that left me with the choice of a business course. Initially, I wanted to be a journalist or lawyer but my aunt told me that I won't be able to enter such courses due to my poor command of english. However, I can string coherent sentences, it's just that I have difficulty in expressing ideas, always talking in a roundabout way, be it written or verbal.

I am in the school's dance club but I am not one of the star performers. It's like I am a plain jane- no talents whatsoever.

Lastly, since I had switched to a new school, I can't seem to adapt to my new circle of friends because I have difficulty relating to them. All they do the entire day is gossip or talk about boyfriends( I don't have one btw bcoz I have yet to find someone that I am passionate abt) or fantasize their fairytale marriages. I would rather sit in a corner and read my storybooks. However, I try my best to be with them by partaking in their frivolous conversations.

I want to apply to US colleges but my aunt thinks I am too lousy for it because of my school grades. I am trying my best to work hard for it but it's tiring. Studying in asia is different from studying in the US! I have no time at all and the syllabus is much tougher. Even though I am in highschool, I am studying US college algrebra and chemistry. For english, I have to write essays on issues such as human rights, crime and punishment, and various world issues. Although I am chinese, I can't score well in mandarin because I speak cantonese at home( that's what I think). The sounds are different and the words are difficult. However, my parents seem to think that since I am a cantonese, mandarin would be easy for me.

I don't know what to do with my life! I prayed to God and sometimes, I ask him why did he create me this way? why did he give others brains and not me? God creates people for a purpose and I don't think I am here to waste space. I wish I am motivated like michael phelps. I wanted to enter ivy leagues but it's kind far-stretched. I have more than 120 hrs of community service and won some medals in sports and hopefully, some for dance next year.

  1. Everyone has talent you just haven't found it yet

  2. Sweetie,

You have one thing going for you, belief in God.

don't you know, that God doesn't create mistakes someone who has no talents or is not creative in anything.

I am a mother and a Nana of 12 beautiful grandchildren and so blessed to have what I have and am 61 but don't feel a bit old.

I have always lived my life with God as my center and have had my God moments.

I too thought I was ugly and very tall and no decent cloths and holes in my shoes, talent also I thought I had none, my sister always had that too.

It took my granddaughter Chrissy, the twinkle of my eye. said Nana draw me a teddy bear. I replied I can't ,I don't know how. But Nana you can do anything for me/ that is how my life changed so late in life I believed in her and soon I was making all sorts of things and being great at them all.  I told you this so that you too can know with someone encouraging you you too can do anything.

Let me be your encourager for right now. I believe in you and your beauty that wants to jump out and be seen. You have to right now stop with the negativity and start seeing you as I see you.  You are absolutely beautiful and extremely smart and anything you put your mind to it you can do.

Go to a beauty parlor and get the works the eyebrows done seem to make a difference in woman and natural makeup and a soft gentle perfume. Change your look and still be a bit you, trust someone who you see dresses great and ask for help.  Get several outfits , at school ask God to give you a friend who will be of Him, you can't go wrong there.

Pray positive prayers and thank Him in all things and tell Him you Love Him, He too needs love.

I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.......

    Simply Shy

  4. Honey, I believe we all have talents. Sometimes, we just don't find them tell later in life.  I'm jealous of those who fid it so early in life.

I'm over 50 yr. old  and just last year I found I can paint! I love it. Wish I'd of known this  or had the interest years ago..........who knows, maybe I could of made alot of money on my paintings!

I had bad grades in school. But feel I'm middle to above intellegence for not doing well in school.

If you like fashion, do fashion.

We're all beautiful in our own ways.  You'll be fine.

  5. Do not for a second let your family tell you that you cannot do anything. You are taking college courses in algebra and chemistry and are in the 11th grade you say? That is in itself a terrific accomplishment. You are very young to look down on yourself. You have aready alot going for you and have made some accomplishments and have the ability to succeed in life by focusing on what is directly in front of you.I am an american and have been raised here from birth.Your language is not taught in the high schools here and we have been told is not an easy language to learn. Many americans know only how to speak english and would love to know two or three different languages. You are unique in that no one else is like you and that alone makes you very special. You have so many awesome opportunities ahead of you and a world of knowledge to dive into just waiting to be explored.Your life is a treasure and so are you.Try not to focus on your faults but instead focus on your stenghths and you will discover your talents and gifts one by one.Do not compare yourself with or to others and this will be hard but If you can do this,You will begin to appreciate yourself,Feel much better inside and be able to accomplish more and go farther in life than you could ever imagine. You will be an example to others without even realizing it.If you just look at the world around you, even plants and animals, they are themselves without comparisons and are graceful just because they are.Be passionate about what you love to do and you will find that intelligence is not the only thing in life worthwhile.Do your best and be satified with your own efforts by making progress at your own rate. Then you will have something to always look forward to and something to work towards and you will never feel bored. When one gets to the top of anything,He finds he has to start over again in a new direction. Our goals never end so take it easy on yourself in your journey and  you will have peace and satifaction in your heart to pass on to others for years to come...
