  1. My daughter gets violently ill from eating salmon, and we don't know why.  Yet, I get very sick from fresh tuna, shark, swordfish and any of the other fish that contain high levels of mercury.....

  2. Certain toxins from the fishs' digestive tract and their diets. These fish are all raised in different waters and eat different things. You're allergic to the toxins in his system, not necissarily the fish. But since all that is digested goes through his whole body, then yeah, that sounds right. My sister can eat blue crabs but is deathly allergic to alaskan snow crabs.

  3. It's not the mercury levels, despite what these "experts" say - canned light tuna has higher amounts of mercury compared to the other fish.

Your allergies are caused by the fish proteins. There are times when people who are allergic to one type of fish, such as cod, will also react to other fish, such as hake, haddock, mackerel and whiting. This happens because the protein allergens of these fish are similar. If you're like me, you just practice avoidance unless you want to spend the next few hours in agony from eating certain fish.

  4. I'm allergic to beans except for soy beans and green beans. It probably has to do with the different kinds of proteins in the fish. Proteins are what cause allergic reactions.  Your white blood cells think that there is a harmful foreign substance in your body, so it wants to attack.

  5. salmon and tilapia have a different amount of mercury than tuna fish
