I always seem to get sad/depressed the next day after a night of drinking alcohol. Is there some scientific evidence as to why this happens? Or is it all psychological?

  1. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. That's why you fall down when you get drunk. You brain becomes dehydrated, and its chemistry is upset. When you change your brain chemistry it's no wonder you're depressed.

  2. You probably feel guilty after it's done. Alcohol is a depressant, but only WHILE you are drinking it.

I say drink lots of water before a night of drinking.

But. better yet, don't drink at all...

  3. When you wake up, are you naked with an older man lying on top of you?  If so, that could be what's causing it...

  4. Alcohol is a depressant.

  5. Everyone keeps saying its a depressant and thats it, not very helpful. Okay so at first when you are drinking you feel very sociable, uninhibited, etc. This is due to a rise in Serotonin and dopamine levels released in your brain, they make you feel good, give you energy, and feel outgoing. However after you continue drinking more your brain stops releasing serotonin and in fact blocks its release, for the next couple days or so after heavy drinking your serotonin levels are lower than normal. Making you feel sad. So in low-moderate doses alcohol is NOT a depressant actually it acts as a stimulant, when you drink heavier the effects become depressant, making you feel sedated, tired etc.

  6. alcohol is a false friend it builds you up only to leave you in the gutter  of depression. it is within it`s nature to do this , as that is all it knows how to do.

i started drinking at the age of 16 ,and i am now 45 . i have had some huge battles with this seemingly harmless liquid and thankfully  am now over the worst.

alcohol , like fire , is a good servant ,but a bad master ,tread carefully

or it will walk for you in all the wrong directions.

use it wisely and it can lead to much fun , abuse it and it can lead to a premature comotose death . painless for you , yes , but what about those you leave behind?

i still enjoy a adrink now and then  as i hope you will,

just don1t let it rule your life .

    regards tony.d
