Why am I being told Bernard Berrian is overrated?

For one he almost received 1000 yards with only 71 Receptions and two he did with QBs like Grossman, Kyle Orton and Brian Griese I understand that his ability will probably go down having Tarvaris Jackson as QB but really if you put up that good of stats with a QB like Grossman than you deserve a little something something

  1. Vikes highly over paid for a so-so WR.  And as you mentioned with a QB like Jackson the Vikes are not going to be a very pass oriented team.  His catches will be limited.

  2. Personally I dont think hes over-rated however, the reasons you gave are probably the reasons why alot of people think he is.

Yes Chicago didnt have a great QB but they also didnt have alot of other weapons as I see it.  I dont know the stats on the percentage of plays that went his way but I would guess they are pretty high up there and the yardage came mostly from them not being able to run the ball and being forced to throw longer passes to Bernard.

I still think hes a top wide receiver.  I place him maybe just above middle of the pack.

Undoubtedly his production should go down this season but I dont think that has to do as much with Jackson as it does with Minnesota actually having a running game.

  3. i never heard he was overrated

i always thought, he was underrated because no one talks about him

  4. he was the only good receiver the bears had and now he will be the best Minnesota has

  5. Bernard Berrian is a heck of a lot like a slightly better version of a receiver that the Vikings just shipped out: Troy Williamson.  Like Williamson, Berrian's main strength is his fantastic speed, and like Williamson, Berrian's main weakness is his mediocre catching ability.  Berrian is a deep threat on every play, and he runs pretty good routes though, so he's still definitely an improvement over Williamson.  I think it's funny how the Vikings went out and overpaid a player just like Williamson immediately after shipping Williamson out of town.

  6. He makes the spectacular catch, but has trouble with routine passes. He drops a lot of passes at bad times. The Vikings waaaay overpaid for him. He's not a number one receiver.

  7. In Minnesota I haven't heard overrated.  I've definately heard overpaid, but the Vikings went out and paid the going rate for the best available WR.  I think he is overpaid, but I credit the Vikes for trying to fill a need.  That being said, I've talked to a lot of Chicago fans and they tell me that he's is prone to drop more than a few balls.  I think Jackson will be better than Grossman, but you should get the ball in the hands of your best players...and with A. P. in the backfield...Berrian is gonna help, but won't be the focus of an offense like Owens, Moss, Smith, etc...

  8. I'm a Bears fan and I don't think he's overrated, well he wasn't when he was in Chicago.

The Vikings and their fans might be overrating him because of how they feel he will suddenly make the offense so much better.

Berrian drops a lot of catchable passes and sometimes runs the wrong routes. He has speed which is his biggest asset. He can shake off his defender, but he to me made the QBs have a harder time.

Also I'm sorry, but Rex is a LOT better than Jackson.

I personally feel like Rex is better than what most people think, so that sorta effects my thoughts.

I wish Berrian the best though.
