Why am I falling asleep in the afternoon?

Ok so I am almost uncontrollably falling asleep between the hours of 1pm and 3pm. I can be driving, walking, talking to people, sitting, eating etc... you name it and I get so tired I either fall asleep or have to sit and then fall asleep. After and before those times I feel alert awake and full of energy. Even if I try to stay awake the whole time I still feel great without napping after the designated time. I can no longer drink caffeine as of last year, and I eat pretty healthy and get lots of exercise all day long. This happened to start 4 weeks ago and I don't usually nap unless I am ill, in fact before this I could not force myself to nap unless I was ill. Any ideas about what may be causing this? Mono? Canadians? The presidents speeches?

  1. So many possibilities:

    1. You may be suffering sleep apnoea, where you stop breathing because of loose tissue in the throat (among other causes). It ca n make you tired during the day because you constantly wake at night. Or it may be snoring.

    2. You may need to change your mattress.

    3. You suffer narcolepsy.

edit - Oh well. If the sleep docs are stumped, what hope do I have?

    More naps I guess.

  2. your getting old but i guess we can blame it on the canadians LOL

  3. are you getting enough sleep at night? i am guessing that would be the time you are tired again from not getting enough sleep...you should see a doctor!

  4. It's probably the hot summer humidity.  HOt weather makes u sleepy :-)

  5. Maybe you are having a sugar crash.. Do you eat sugary breakfast like cereal or pop tarts? or syrup with waffles or something? or even eat sugary snack or drinks in the morning or at lunch? Sometime if you do that then you will have a sugar crash in the afternoon. Try to eat healthy in the morning and not drink energy drinks or soda or food with a lot of sugar in it. Like eggs and toast with butter and a glass of milk and carry a bottle of water instead of a coke. That might make you feel better.
