Why am I gaining weight on my calorie restricted,lactose & gluten free diet plan with daily moderate cardio?

I am 26 years old, 1.62 metres tall and 86 kilos(189 pounds). I have been on a calorie-restricted lactose and gluten free diet and been doing 70 minutes of moderate cardio at the gym for two weeks, yet have managed to gain a pound!I have been working so hard on my weight loss plan and now feeling really demotivated, any suggestions/advice is most welcome.thanks.

  1. well, first off congratulations on ur determination and drive to get healthy! it sounds like ur working really hard!! remember, if u restrict ur calories too much, it could make ur body think that ur starving it thus causing it to hold onto any calories that is is getting. its important to eat every 3 to 4 hours, that will keep ur metabolism in high gear as well as properly nourish ur body. another thing to keep in mind is that all of the exercise that ur doing can cause muscle gain thus making the scale go up... my best advice is to be healthy and throw away ur scale. ur clothes will be a good measurement! good luck and be kind and gentle to urself!! xoxo

Well a couple things...first of all if you are new to working out you will be gaining muscle...muscle weighs much more than fat and you want this because muscle burns fat.  You should try measuring your waist thighs ect and see if you are losing circumference even if you're not losing weight.  Don't give up!  Just because you started dieting doesn't mean weight will fall off right away.  Just stick with it.  Also make sure your diet is not too severe because if it is your body could go into starvation mode and hold on to everything you eat.  You should eat a little bit every few hours to get your metabolism to speed up.  If this is not the case and you continue to gain weight you should see a doctor and have your thyroid evaluated to make sure there is no issue.

  4. well the other person pretty much covered it except a few things. First off, your thryroid doesnt have a problem, highly unlikely at your age, but is possible. Ok well I hope when you say you run its not 70min a day but rather spread out. Really if its spread out your not burning more calories than you are bringing in. Yes you need food and you need meals throughout the day but you also need to burn them. Eat more heavy in the morning (mainly carbs, with moderate protein.) Mid day should be pretty even(moderate sized meal.) and Dinner should be high protein very low complex carbs, on that note most if not all your carbs should be complex.(This is the time when you want to let protein take you all the way to bed) Now most people will tell you dont eat after dinner and that is absolutely inaccurate. By all means if your hungry but ONLY PROTEIN. A great snack and your probably gonna shoot me but cottage cheese. Its packed full of predigested protein.  Ok im not going to go to heavy into food bc I could write a book. A great book to start is Macrobolic Nutrition along with Believe it or not Body for Life.  As for your workout, cardio is great and all but its proven that at least minor weightlifting burns more calories than cardio. So if you can combine the two im sure you are going to start seeing better results. Again only minor weights. As for you feeling demotivated dont. Remember it takes time. A great suggestion from me would be a couple of things really. 1. Throw out your scale! IT LIES!  2. Measure all your main body parts, you can find such tapes at sports authourity or The vitamin shoppe etc. 3. DO THE LAST STEP AT THE END OF EACH WEEK! It does you no good once a month. Once a week will allow you to see what you did and what results. Why keep doing the same thing that keeps bring minimal resutls?  4. Along with the previous write down what you eat along with the amount of protien, carbs, and calories. Keeping track of this helps believe you me. The old saying is true you are what you eat. 5. Last but not least, Visualize yourself in the mirror of what you want to look like each day, in your head throughout the day and more importantly while you workout. No this is not to make you narsiccistic. (I spelled that wrong) Believe it or not research has shown that mentally visualizing your body changing will increase results. Remember our bodies are changing through workouts, and sometimes seeing is believing. Dont give up.
