Question:

Why am I getting Security Updates for Windows XP from Microsoft nearly everyday on my PC? Is it normal?

I keep installing these updates onto my PC and Microsoft keep asking me to install mroe and more of these updates. Are there really so many critical flaws of the Windows XP operating system that Microsoft needs to patch it up nearly everyday?

Should I turn the updates off? I am getting suspicious already. Anyone having the same situation as me?

  1. WELL FIRST OFF. MICROSOFT UPDATES ARE VERY MUCH NORMAL. IM GUESSING YOU RECENTLY INSTALLED AN NEW OS OR REFORMATTED SO YOUR MISSING VALUABLE UPDATES FROM MICROSOFT FROM .NET TO FRAMEWROKS UPDATES TO SECURITY UPDATES, NO WORRIES , THIS IS NORMAL , IF YOU WANT THIS TO STOP TURN OFF YOUR UPDATES.BUT, I SUGGEST YOU DONT,MICROSOFT UPDATES ARE NEEDED FOR MOST OF US.CHOOSE TO DO WHAT YOU WILL,BUT IF YOU WANT THIS TO END,WHICH IT WILL NEVER END, WE ALL GET MS UPDATES EVERY WEEK.BUT, AGAIN IF YOU WANT THIS TO STOP GO TO MICROSOFT AND UPDATE YOURSELF AND CHOOSE THE UPDATES YOU WANT, AND GET IT ALL OVER WITH, RATHER THEN UPDATING THEN A FEW AT A TIME

  2. I had this problem and it also applied to XP, mostly to those machines that have SP2.

The workaround is to turn OFF your firewall and antivirus, which is never recommended, but for the short time it took I solved my problem, then reboot when download is complete and you protection should automatically come back on.

The other alternative is that when the downloads have finished installing you get a list of failed updates, copy the KB number (keep the KB with it) the search microsoft downloads for it and download each one individually into a new folder on your desktop and when you have them all, install them one at a time.

Time consuming though, I did my daughters at the weekend and there were 97 of the d**n things!

  3. Well, I think that maybe one of the updates is not getting installed properly and keeps failing so MS is trying to install it again and again and again.

    Try this:

Launch your Internet Explorer (IE Browser), go to "Tools" on the top menu bar, select "windows update", download all the updates directly from MS at once.
