Question:

Why am I getting snow on my new rear projection TV that I didn't get from my CRT?

I am not referring to the decreased quality from watching standard definition with the new tv. I see noise/snow/artifact on screen. The new tv is the Sony KDS55A3000, and all the other equipment is the same as before. The cable is going directly from the cable box into the TV. The snow/artifact is intermittent, but is very visible. Any ideas why and how to stop this from happening?

  1. the cable from the box to the tv is probably damaged. replace the cable.

yes, it may be the same cable, but you just unplugged, moved, and reconnected it

  2. If you're watching the TV on channel 3 then you need to hook it up to the cable box with better wires.  I've seen a lot of cables boxes with lousy RF out and the new TV's find it hard to understand the poor quality coming in.

HD cable box?  Use component or HDMI video cables.

Standard definition cable box?  At the very least use the yellow red and white wires (composite) or s-video if it has it.

  3. Try tightening the connections. Use a 7/16 inch wrench. But don't apply too much force or you can break off the connectors
