Why am I getting soot all over the house from a wood burning insert?

if this is new problem just now starting then odds are flue is dirty-or damper is stuck not alowing air flow-new unit then could be flue is not large enough

What is this "wood burning insert"?  Does it actually burn wood in some kind of open flame container not having a flue pipe to the outside? If so, I don't understand how you're able to stay inside of the house with the thing!?

check hat your chimney is clear.  fireplaces that are used daily need 3 sweeps a year so dont scrimp there.
