Why am I heckled at airports?

the security check personell scanned my body then saw the bulge in my pants and said you'll have to check that. but why for a pocket knife?

Heckled?  Don't you mean hassled?  So did they ask you "is that a knife in your pocket, or are you just glad to see us?"
