The particular program I am having this problem with is the ati catalyst control center. I have downloaded and installed it and restarted but when I try to open it up I get the message that I can't access it because these options are restricted to the administrator. I AM the computer administrator. I only have one account. How can I bypass this? Thanks very much!

  1. k ugh i dont know all those fance terms or notin. but i would

    1. start>Control pannel> user accounts> change accounts

    2. then just click on yours and try to set it as computer administrator

  2. Right click on the program ,select properties and choose the security tab,

Once there select your name and select Full control option

  3. may be some thing is wrong with the registry access for that particular software package that you've installed!

    better try reinstalling it!

but it may even prove in vein some times that i dunno why........

  4. ---It's a Windows instability, which keeps you going to them for the next OS that they create because your old OS crashed and they no longer support it.

---First I would run "chkdsk <drive:> /r /f" in the command prompt, it will ask to schedule a scan at next boot. Reboot and let it scan, and thenF8 to start in safe mode and defrag. Do not defrag all the time, on regular intervals. It damages the HDD... which could also be what's happening, you're information is becoming corrupted, your drive is showing early signs of failure.

---Most likely what probably happened was a critical update "for remote user" was installed that changed your settings and then when you installed the program, you didn't have the privileges you had before. You'll have to go in and tell Windows that you are the Administrator again. So, you go to the sign on screen and you hit ctrl+alt+del twice. That will bring up the administrator login screen. Type Administrator in the user name field and leave the password field blank (unless you have changed the administrator's password).

---Go to Start | Run  and type in "net localgroup Administrators <username> /add" [Enter]

---That should do the trick. If not, try a manual add.

---Once logged into the Administrator's account, go to the control panel and open up User Settings. Change your user settings to limited and walk out of the panel by Okay, apply, whatever... restart the system and log into Administrative once again. Set your user privileges to Administrative and walk out of the panel. Restart the system and log into your account and you should have Administrative privileges again.

    -HTH
