Why am I seeing double with my glasses on?

It says:

O.D. -0.25 GLU (?)

O.S. -0.25 -0.25 X 65

PD 67/64

I can see fine with my glasses because I just needed a small correction, but I am seeing double when it comes to florescent lights. Is there something in the prescription that would cause this?

  1. o.d means the right eye

    o.s means the left eye

(ive NEVER understood why some optoms use this r.e and l.e are much easier and stop people who havent spent 3/4 years at university getting confused)

-0.25 in your right eye means you need the weakest possible prescription in your eye.

    -0.25 - 0.25 x 65 in your left should be written -0.25 / 0.25 x 65

the first number means the same as before. the second two mean you have what is known as an asstigmatism - where your eye isnt a perfect sphere its more a rugby ball shape. this means your eye is focusing on different points in different merdians) the -0.25 means you require -0.25 diopters of prescription in a merdian of 65 degrees.

to be honest - i wouldnt have suggested you have glasses the cost is going to out-weight the benefits, although that can depend on your age also.

pd stands for pupillary distance (the distance between the centres of your pupils), generally this is one number such as 67 OR 64, if its two numbers this is known as mono-pupilary distance generally around 33-28mm. im guessing your pd is either of these numbers. This measurement allows lab technicans when making up your glasses to ensure the centre of the lense is placed where your pupil would be if looking straight ahead giving you optium vision.

seeing double in florescent lights i havent got a clue about im afraid - you should ask your optican about that. also the GLU all i can think it'll mean is glutamic acid.

    hope that helped!
