Technical difficulties with the site could be a reason but I would recommend letting the owner of the group know what's going on by sending an e-mail to an address that will look something like this: [e-mail] to see if they can be of further assistance in helping you to try to figure out what could be going on as well as find out if this is happening to others that are trying to join.
