Why am i not toned ?

ive been doing situps for over a year now and im still not toning up

  1. doing only situps will not tone your overall look of your body. You must do cardio, strength training exercises to see accurate results. Things like running, cycling, swimming, or jogging can help you get toned. Try going to a gym and using the equipment there. Situps have a small percentage of improvement anyway so don't waste your time anymore doing them.


  2. Its hard to say because you gave very little information.  I have no idea what your body fat is.  Your body fat needs to be pretty low to show your abs.  

    Just doing sit ups isn't going to build muscle.  From the sound of it your just doing many many reps.  That isn't how you build muscle.  The abs are like any other muscle group.  They need to be trained with a variety of exercises and with weight.  The rep range should really never go over 15.

    Make sure your diet is healthy and your body fat is in check and starting training your abs correctly and you'll get what you want.  Good luck!

  3. situps build muscle, but don't burn fat. in order to firm up your stomach area, you need to do a mix of differnt abs exercises(situps, crunches, reverse crunches, scissors etc.) that target the upper, lower and side abs to build up the muscle. then you need to do cardio(running, elliptical, etc.) to burn the fat. And, you need a good diet, without which it is very hard to tone your abs. Eat several small meals a day with a good mix of complex carbs, protein and fats. Make sure that you don't overtrain your abs and have a couple of rest days before doing abs exercises again.

    oh, and swimming is also a fantastic way to tone your abs, as well as every other muscle in your body!
