I feel like lately I have been doing worse when it comes to my running. I have always had a passion for running and I used to be so much better!!! Last season I got injured after cross country so I didn't run indoor or outdoor track. Now, I am doing cross country again, but I am not doing so well!! My teammates that I used to have no problem staying with or passing are now so much faster than me and I am just performing badly. We have a race coming up soon and I want to do well!!! Any advice???

  1. haha id love to take a run with you because honestly i could talk about this forever.

Your heart has to be into it. I know what you mean by that passion that you almost desire about running. That feeling of accomplishment, the adrenaline.. people watching out for you during the race. And yes, even sometimes you being recognized as the 'fast one' in your team.

But in the end, it's a mental sport..all about heart, your head has to be in it 100% of the time, 110%.

My story.. Last year my coach was telling me..."You're a great athelte, but you're a stupid one. They don't mix. Take your head out of your ***, run the race for yourself." you have to race for yourself..to prove to yourself, not anyone else. worry about times, not place. When she said that.. i remember being offended and thinking. well geezzz its not that big of a deal. not being confidident isnt going to affect my race.

    but it does.

It does so incredibly much. Once you've set barriers for yourself, they're impossible to break. For me, I said... there is no way I can break 5:28 on teh mile. And then i did. And it took SO much time, pain and training...but once i did, it all pays off. Because then i had proved myself wrong, i was back. and all the sudden, i was taking of the seconds like it was nothing. this year..i made my way to 5:11. something i would NEVER ever believe i could do.

so you have to believe in yourself. nothing is impossible.

in the words of Pre...to do anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

So just get on the line.. with a smile. do it for yourself..maybe your times wont improve instantly...but haha this year during track i ran one time four times in a row. frustrating? yes. once i broke it...best moment of my life.

just don't worry about it...maybe take a break.. but really don't worry about it. you'll be back. :)

    good luck! :)
