  1. Americans, the average Americans, generally have a very idealistic concept of both their nation, and its attitudes towards the rest of the world.

They view American goals as helping to spread Democracy, security, and well-being to other nations.

Many Americans, and other peoples of industrialized nations, have a very limited view of how their government actually operates in the larger world. They have little understanding of feelings outside America.

Most ALL peoples in the world have very limited historical and geopolitical concepts based upon their own national media and their government's or religious leaders' pronouncements.

Much of the US outlook is colored by WWII, and the rebuilding of Europe & Japan after the war.

Much is also colored by the media, and by real or imagined fears. Even high government officials are not immune to fears and misconceptions. A good example would be the complete misunderstanding between US and North Vietnam leaders, and their beliefs on the reasons each were conducting that war.

In Iraq; Bush may, or may not have believed there were WMD's, but he convinced the populace. (Understand here that generally I think Bush is a moron.)

I truly believe he thought the Iraqis would welcome the overthrow of Saadam, develop a stable government, and live happily ever after. I think he truly believed that the new Iraqi government would be an example for change in the region. He felt the spread of Democracy would reduce the terrorism threat.

Sure, he had other goals; stability in the mideast helps us as well. Although "oil" is often mentioned as a reason, the truth is that oil is bought on a world market, and the argument is a "red herring". The supply might have increased, but American companies would still have to pay for it.

America now has the dilemma of trying to stabilize a civil war fueled by regional powers, or leaving, and have hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed in the fighting. A real mess.

His "Iraq Study Group" proposes a regional conference to decide the future make-up of Iraq. In my opinion, this is the only rational solution. We will leave - and soon - I truly hope a regional solution can be found first.

America may be "imperialist," but only in the sense that it jealously pursues economic interests. It truly believes that exporting Democracy helps everyone.

  2. What country are you from? I am sure where ever it is, it has its faults too. Read the history of the US. You might get an idea or a clue.

  3. Are you an American elhaam? If you are from the middle east they are far less "imperialistic" than yours are. The leaders (they don't really have politicians) of the middle east are trying to rule the world by subterfuge, blackmail and terrorism. Don't make the assumption that we're dense. Some are but the majority are not. You know just like Bin Laden and his ilk Hitler thought we were a bunch of weak undisciplined nincompoops and we would easily fall. Where's Hitler now? Where's Bin Laden? Last I heard he was hiding in a cave. If you jihadi's don't come to your senses you're going to end up the same place Hitler is. By the way...the last I heard the only land the U.S. ever asked from the countries they liberated was enough to bury the one's that died fighting for THEIR right to self determination. Yes we have bases in Germany but we didn't liberate them we defeated them.

  4. It is so strange when non-Americans talk about American Imperialism.  Yet, those same people can't wait to come to the US from the "wonderful" countries they live in with all the "freedoms" they have in those "wonderful" countries.  Once they get here, they soon forget about American Imperialism.

  5. Where do you get your information?  Probably from the same place I get mine. You're no better than me, an American.

Remember, the news reports the news, not the truth.  Don't believe the c**p that you're fed, and I won't believe the c**p that's fed me.

You aren't smarter than any American.  It's just that your media sells themselves that way.  That's how they get you to listen, which really does say something about you.

  6. Wow, I can't say it any better than "Just An American" just said it. Bravo!

  7. Censorship is a wonderful tool that any imperialistic government uses very wisely. The last time I looked the United States of America was about the least censored of any government on the planet.

Of course, many governments have to deal with a citizenry that is totally uneducated and ill informed about world events or the information available is clouded by the clergy or the government.   It is those countries that generally have such an imperial form of government.

  8. Saying it doesn't make it true. It seems you are the dense one
