Amphibians are vertebrates which can thrive both in land and water(Amphi-both bios-life).

Amphibians lay their eggs in water as a water media is required for their eggs to fertilize.Also if they laid their eggs on land then all of them would dry up due to the heat! So they require moisture to lay their eggs and fertilize! You must have seen in books that froggs eggs are covered by a mucilageneous jelly coat!
