  1. Dude... You've been watching way too many medical soap operas.

  2. Everyone is a MAN?  I think NOT!  There are quite a few female anesthesiologists out there, and I'm one of them!

You have a very mistaken impression of our profession.  True, there are a few that abuse drugs, but I've seen surgeons and other physicians have the same problem.  Most of us know not to use the drugs ourselves.

We have the same access to alcohol that every other adult does - what does that have to do with anything?

In real life, we're a little bit geeky.  Sorry to disappoint you.

  3. The work an anesthesiologist does is about as complicated as that of a surgeon, and when they s***w up even slightly, people notice. When under general for surgery, the anesthesiologist is essentially managing most of your body functions, including your breathing.

They also have the absolute highest malpractice insurance costs of any doctor (because they get sued the most), and are frequently as expensive as the services of the actual surgeon (because of said insurance, and lawsuits).

It's also worth noting that doctors are not allowed to prescribe themselves drugs.
