  1. I have a Pioneer receiver/tuner with front, woofer, and center Bose Acoustimass 5 speaker system. I added a separate Yamaha sub- woofer and side / rear by Infinity. The 'No" separate powered sub- woofer attitude of Bose doesn't cut it for me! The system is a 7.1 type and sounds really great, especially with a little bass for classical music Orchestral pieces!

  2. They do have a subwoofer called 'Acoustimass Module'.

  3. Because it is a Bose design concept that they do not need a subwoofer to produce the low frequencies provided by a subwoofer.   They believe their system provides sufficient low frequency output without a subwoofer.  I would have to experience that in person to believe it.  Low frequency notes require greatly increased output from a power amplifier for short periods of time.  A subwoofer, if it is an efficient design ,will not require excessive output from amplifiers.  Bose does a lot of compromising to achive questionable results.
