  1. there are a few reasons

the bird might not have been hand reared so it is not used to humans or human contact its hard to train a bird which hasn't been hand reared it can be done though with a Lot of time and patience

If the bird is a few years old and purchased off another owner then the bird might not have been handled or treated nicely

African greys find it hard to trust people

but once they trust you you'll have a best friend for years

the only way to stop your grey being nasty and annoying is to just spend some time with it

he'll soon learn to trust you and you'll soon learn that your bird is not so nasty and annoying after all

  2. They know bad people when they see them and don't take it.

  3. you have to spend a lot of time with them.,and they have to have toys in the cage so they are not bored

  4. They not mean and annoying. The first answer although not very kind was truthful. African Greys need lots of attention, especially during the first few years of their life (just like a human baby). It is during that time that they are taught what is appropriate and what is not. They need constant stimulation (toys, company, challenges). Without that they are bored and get nippy when they see you, as if to say "Hey, pay attention to me!"

Mine loves to run on the floor and play soccer with the bottle caps of bottled water. She likes it when we take anything (nuts, fruit, seed ball, even a little wooden toy) wrap it in paper twisting the ends so she has something to hold onto. She will work diligently until she free's her prize. They love to shred. Also, take adding machine paper (cheap) and weave it through the bars of the cage. Do the same with leafy vegetables. Keep your Grey busy and you'll soon see a happier bird.

  5. cause they werent raised right.
