Question:

Why are American students so stupid?

Hi, I am Asian (just moved to the U.S. 2 years ago) in high school in Georgia in an all white school where the average student is at least 20 lbs overweight. All of my classmates are not that bright either. Example- in 11th grade, in my English course, they just figured out that the word "cannot" could be spelled that way. They said it was impossible and were shocked even after the teacher explained to them that it's the correct way for the word to be spelled. I have A in all my courses and never got anything under a 98. I got a perfect SAT score. They talk very slow and always leave a bad odor wherever they go. Is this how it is with the rest of the US or is it just the Southerners?

  1. well there are many American students are smart and many people are different every where you go in the United States and i don't think that's nice that you ask is the rest of the US "that way" its disrespectful no matter who you are and i know many southerners who are well educated and smell well, you just don't thinking outside the box and you might be smart but that doesn't mean everyone else around you is stupid

  2. Some of it might just be your experience.  People in the South also just talk slow, and they might well think you smell bad since you're the one who's different.

The American educational system is somewhat lacking, though.  The idea is to cater to the slowest reasonable students in a given class, and that means everyone who's really smart is often bored until some point in college.  I know. . . I used to be that age, too.

  3. Aren't you in AP classes with those scores? Everybody's smart in AP classes. Maybe you should move somewhere else instead of Georgia.

  4. It's definitely not the US. It's most likely the school. There are some pretty bad schools out there especially in the southern and urban regions. (no offense south or city folk!) I go to a suburban public high school in the New England area. I'm in mostly honors courses (freshman here), and trust me; we work HARD to get an A or a B. There are a lot of Asians in my class as well, and we use college text books. Even in the regular classes we get worked hard. It's definitely the school district.

  5. Don't go off generalizing everybody and thinking you are so smart, it makes you seem like a jerk to everyone and I wouldn't be surprised if you have no friends. Just be happy that you are smart (or at least think you are) and don't judge others.

  6. It's not the US, or the southerners (though their schools tend to be.. sort of bad in the lower states, no offense), but your school in particular.

I live in NJ, and go to a magnet school where most people do as well as you do, but the regular high school is okay, too...

Maybe you guys should move if you're so concered and go to a private school or something, or go back to Asia if we're so stupid.

  7. Me love you long time.

The only good **** is a dead ****.

And you're full of ****, because there's no such thing as an 'all white' school in Georgia.

  8. Your generalizing about people there

  9. well you know if you don't like it so much leave some where else and quiet complaining.

  10. Hmmm... judging from your name, you must be Korean... right? My dad was stationed at the base and I went to Seoul Foreign school. What I can say us that different things bother different people. Korea is much different than America.

No, Americans do not find it appropriate or pleasant when another person smells. But keep in mind... Caucasians generally have more/larger sweat glands than the average Asian. Meaning... more sweat. That is not to say Asians don't smell. I remember smelling some foul odors during my many subway rides.

As for the word "cannot/can not", I think at least some people must have known it could be spelled that way... One explanation could be that it is fairly rare to find that spelling. For example: Color or Colour... both are correct, but not many people spell it with a "U". Americans will usually say: "You can not", or "You can't".

Slow speaking... this is a direct product of the South. Not all Southerners are like that, but a lot speak with a southern drawl. It's very laid back and relaxed. If you travel more West or up North, you will find that some Americans, like New Yorkers, can talk at  lightening speed. You should be thankful, though. When I lived in Korea, everyone spoke super fast... like they had to say everything in under a minute! But when they spoke English, for some reason the spoke very slow...

Also, there is a difference between "book smarts", and "street smarts". But just because you don't ace a test, doesn't mean you are stupid... it just means you have a bad memory... That's all it takes to succeed in school.... memory. In Korea, the kids did better in school because they were pushed harder by their parents. It's sometimes goes too far, though... one of my friends used to cry because her parent's were putting too much pressure on her. So, I think Americans (especially the lower class) are generally better with "street smarts"...you know???...You do what you gotta do to survive... America can be fairly dangerous sometimes.... But I think street smarts is something a lot of Korean children lack.

Hope I helped answer your question...Peace!!

  11. LOL! Definitely the school you're in. Not the southerners. I live in the northern east coast and I'm taking all honors classes going to tenth grade.  Try going to a catholic school or ask your parents to relocating to the north such as New York or Connecticut or New Jersey etc, way up north. Or if you don't want to move there's also looking at extra classes in school, try looking for honors classes or college course, keep those A's because America does have some great colleges, such as, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, NYU, etc. Do some research. P.S, MIT is for the brainiacs. :)

  12. I think that you are completely absurd!  I'm Asian and I don't feel that way about my fellow American counterparts.  Intelligience isn't everything and neither is looks.  Whoever told you that and put that notion into your mind is way too judgemental.  My parents are like that, and they raised me to be like that, but I didn't follow that path one bit.  If you're going to be like that you're not going to survive in the real world.  Sorry, but I think saying that was completely uncalled for.  Keep the critical criticism to yourself.

  13. haha... I feel sorry for you. I have all A's in my classes as well, but I've been to 3 different schools, and none of them have been that way. So the answer to your question is no, that is not how the US is. The obesity problem is a major thing in America. But truthfully, the rest of the US is not like how your school is. maybe you should be a little more open to the world and not just look for the negative things as well

  14. No, you are just narrow-minded and did not visit other parts of the US at all. Actually, US has a lot of smart people and you are just ignorant for asking this question.
