Why are Americana's obsessed with chain restaurants???

  1. Because most Americans (and I am an American) are not seeking good food when they go out to dinner.   They are seeking inexpensive food (like McDonalds) or football game food (like you get at Fridays) or kid friendly places.

Half of them don't ever cook and survive on frozen pizza and hot pockets when at home.    In fact, my theory is that if you eat hot pockets at home, you are likely to be eating at Applebees or Fridays when you go out.    If you are a scratch cook at home, you are less likely to frequent chain restaurants.

  2. Because Americans love junk food to make them even fatter.  The easiest way to get fatter is by seeking out the not-so-rare chain restaurant. Totally disgusting.

  3. Because people like to go into a restaurant and know that they can order the same thing they did back home and it will be EXACTLY the same.  It's also a bit on the laziness side of things, you don't want to cook?  Then go out.

  4. I'm not sure what this has to do with vegetarianism but what it comes down to is being lazy.

  5. it's a really huge country with people who like to travel. It was McDonald's who started the philosophy (if you can call it that) that no matter where you go, the familiar "golden arches" will be there to welcome you "home". So Americans who traveled or moved out to another city or state will find the same family friendly food places that they find at home. As more of these these food companies came about and became giants, their presence became what we see today

Keep in mind that in the beginning, the quality fo their food was a lot better than what we see today. But people want fast, so they get it fast. The food however, is barely edible and fit for consumption.

  6. HOW COULD IT BE LAZINESS? I dont thnik owning a businwess with a full staff and cooking food for people who leave their houses is considered lazyness

  7. Laziness and fear of anything different...that is why I hate them...I like 'different'...

  8. People like chain: restaurants, shops, hotels, etc; because they can rely on their quality control. There are many good mom and pop restaurants, but if your from out of town how do you know if they are any good?

I have a summer job at a world wide chain restaurant. We have to follow very strict rules and we are inspected by company reps to make sure we are following them. It doesn't have the homey feel of a mom and pop place, but you could eat off the floor.

  9. Advertising and the fact that they far outnumber 'real' food restaurants and are a lot cheaper too.

  10. Because we like familiarity. We like being 100 miles away from home and still have the same food we had in our comfort zone.

  11. America's chain restaurants are around the world...but usually just the worst ones! ... I'm sure that whatever country YOU live in has it's share of McDonald's too (but not Applebee's, Bennigan's, Marie Callender's or Mimi's).....  So, why did YOUR country want to have our cheap chain restaurants, but NOT the better chain restaurants?

  12. Chain restaurants are universal surely.  It is not just Americans who have them and that doesn't make them obsessed.  There are plenty of chain restaurants here in the UK, if you are in a strange town (our country) it is sometimes reassuring that you can go to (for instance) MacDonald's and know it will be clean and eatable and that you can afford it!  Some years ago my son visited Moscow and found it difficult to get food at all and if he did it seemed to consist of cabbage and bread.  He actually queued in Moscow to go to MacDonald's.

  13. I think the foods in chain restaurants always are tasty and always are consistent... and we are creatures of consistency.. and they always carry comfort foods.... and there are so many around us, we go to them often and LOVE IT
