Don't say its money, there are a lot of rich countries around the world who can afford the same level of training.

What are some of the other reasons not related to money that you think have given Americans athletes the edge to be superior performers?

  1. Because all of them are mostly the best and they are from different countries

  2. Because a lot of americans have bipolar disorder. Sad but true.

Manic people get over confident which help at competitions.

  3. Not true.

  4. Americans is weak by physically. we all know that. you just have more athletes and train hard. Americans suck at football.

  5. Maybe it's got something to do with the whole American Dream mindset, that if you work hard, you can achieve anything.  These athletes are passionate about their sport.

Also, America is huge, with 300 million people.  These Olympic athletes are the best of the best of the best.  When you take such a huge population and take the very best, the result is phenomenal.

  6. One reason why Americans fair better than other rich nations is because of emphasis on sports.  Sports in the US gets a lot of attention while in other rich nations the emphasis is not as great.  Juzz J made a good point too.  Having a large population definitely helps.  There's a bigger pool of athletes to choose from.  But, whether you like it or not, money is a significant reason why the US does well at sports.  It allows for better training facilities and top-notch coaching staffs.

  7. When you talk about Americans, you're talking about different races and ethnic backgrounds. White people hate the black, asians and other minorities while depend on them to seize the honor. Without the minorities, Americans obviously can only do swimming.

Michael Phelps? He'll be found out to be a drug abuser some day, just like the other "American sports legends" who got lifted to a highest-ever level and then were dropped to h**l years later.

  8. they have more sports to try as a child, but America don't that well in the Paralympic games.  In 2000 they can 5th.  So money will play some part in it and you can't take it away.

They also have 3 meals and people from all over the world

But you are also 2nd in Obesity just behind us Aussies

  9. they have the best coaches at the moment with the exeption of china

  10. Steriods/HGH etc... Dont forget America have a larger population then many other first world countries and that is why the "seem" like they are good or better at sports.

I'm sure if Australia had the same population Aust would smash them in every event.

  11. The Africans are GREAT at distance running

The Asians are FANTASTIC at gymnastics, diving, badminton

Americans are good at OTHER sports.

  12. Better steroids in America. Just ask Marion Jones.

  13. Americans place a lot of emphasis on sports and exercise. Yes money is a partial contributor to this but then again you have African countries who are amazing  runners. You have a large portion of  the skinny population who jog down the road in the US and they hit the gym, lift weights, play ball games, etc. PE is very much emphasised on the in America and it's a requirement for high school and some schools do it everyday. They also make a good sports team and they know the techniques.

  14. I'm not sure about other countries but having lived in the States and Greece I assume it's because children are given the benefit of athletic activities from school.  A lot of emphasis is given to basketball, soccer and football in their school years, many times resulting in scholarships.  Swimming pools are found in abundance whereas in Greece sports is not that big a thing during their school years. Most public schools don't even have a gym.  They do some exercises in the school yard, and run around a bit.  That's it.   They don't have school football or basketball teams.  No school ball games or events.  Whatever athletic training they get is done during their free time and only if they join a local football or basketball team.  Horseback riding is an expensive sport.  Some neighborhoods have a swimming pool, but not all children use it.
