  1. You are right, we are more interested in England's royal family because we can relate to them more. They speak english, have family problems like infidelity and divorce, and are just plain more interesting than the other royal families! I also feel it is because the Queen of the United Kingdom  (and Canada and Australia and all those other places), Elizabeth II, is bound by so many rules and regulations, customs and protocols: for example when she is seen in public she has to dress a certain way, always wear a hat that does not hide part of her face, always wears some kind of gorgeous diamond/ruby/sapphire brooch (even in the morning!), and even has to wave her hand a certain way so it looks dignified.

European  royals tend to dress more like we do, and have abolished much of the pomp and pageantry. They like to dress in jeans and ride bicycles. Much of the "mystique" of royalty is disappearing in Europe. When was the last time Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was in the news?

One other "Royal" who is fabulously wealthy and retains the mystique - with all the gorgeous costumes, the pomp and pageantry, the majesty , etc. is King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. The Thai people adore him!

Regarding the post made by Sue, above, Queen Noor, now the Queen Mother belongs to Jordan - not Lebanon.

  2. You are mistaken in your assumption that Americans are only interested in British Royalty. Many of us are interested in AMERICAN Grace Kelly's children,Prince Albert(naughty boy),Princess Caroline, her beautiful children Andrea,Charlotte and Pierre, and wayward Princess Stephanie(such a wild one).

We are also aware of the Spanish Royals(Poor Elena...a divorce) and the others as well. Maxima of the Netherlands is so stylish,as is Mary of Denmark!Ex-King Constantine of Greece's handsome son Pavlos, and daughter-in-law Marie Chantal(American Robert Miller's daughter, one of the three famous Miller sisters) have quite a following as well. But UK royals do capture more publicity worldwide, don't they?

  3. its because of the history - Queen Elizabeth II is the United Kingdom's Head of State. She is Queen of 16 former British colonies, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand; and head of the Commonwealth, a multinational body created after the dissolution of the British Empire.

Americans have little class, and even less histroy, and that they do have is linked absolutely to the British Monarcy  - they had war over cutting links to it - compare that to the Queen of The Netherlands - who is after all - Queen of .... well The Netherlands- you get my point! Theres no mystery to the Kind of Norway - im sure hes a very nice man but he's have the kudos if Liz does he?

  4. A lot of Americans like the British people a lot-probably more than they like us.  The biggest ancestry groups in the U.S. are English and German (Eliz. II has a lot of German ancestry also). We speak (approximately) the same language.  The British have been our allies for a long time.  Some Americans are old enough to remember WW 2 and how brave the English were when they were being bombed in London.  Especially King Geo. VI and Queen Elizabeth and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret who stayed in Buckingham Palace even when it was being bombed, to be with their people.  The English gave the world the Beatles. I wasn't around for WW II but I grew up reading stories of the Beatles and their families who lived through the war and bombings.  American soldiers were stationed in England during the war. Some Americans feel that England is our mother country even though we fought a revolution for self rule. The founding fathers of the U.S. were English. There are lots of reasons we like them and their royals.  Americans tend to not be all that interested in the rest of the world, which is a fault.  There is so much going on here to keep us busy with our own news.  It's nothing against the other monarchies, we just like the Brits.

  5. My family (mothers side) used to rule England at one time, so many years ago, so we are only interested in the UK royal family because we want see if they are actually doing what they should, and so far we are absolutely disappointed in the royal family, except for Prince William and Harry. For the rest of your question, know cares about the other countries out their and who rules them. I am pretty sure that the majority of Americans say the same about you all, because you all are to interested in who is president and who is going to president.

  6. There's nothing wrong with the reigning families of Monaco (which doesn't have a royal family, it has a princely family), Norway, or the Netherlands (not Holland)... And that's probably the reason why! Aside from their history with the colonies in the United States, the British Royal Family is also famous for their many blunders in spite of their unchanging and unwavering austerity, which leads people to believe they are cold.

The British Royal Family has had enourmous influence... Think of all of the countries of which Elizabeth II is queen and also of the former British Empire. They are a very famous family and they overshadow most others.

  7. The thing about the other royal families is they are just not that important.  That's why Americans don't care about them.

  8. Most are fixated on the UK royals.  But some pay attention to them too. And the Japanese royals too.

  9. Although, to be honest, I could care less about any royalty, I find your question interesting. I think the reason Americans are more fixated on the UK royal family is because it's easy access. We are more familiar with the United Kingdom - they speak our language, so we understand them, they are part of our history so we relate to them - their music, entertainment and culture are permeated throughout our own. (Think U2, Monty Python, etc.)

Other royal family's are as distant as the countries they represent. Most Americans couldn't find Monaco on a map - so how are they supposed to be interested in what their Royal family is doing? Places like Norway and Holland have little influence on mainstream America - unless you count your grandma's new Norwegian inspired sweater - so it's hard for the average American to really get into what is going on in these countries Royal families.

  10. No great scandals going on, lately in Monaco, and Most Americans aren't even aware that there are royalty in the Scandinavian countries, despite fun movies like that one where the Danish prince marries the American girl.  We aren't even really aware of the Lebanese family, and the Queen was born and raised in America.  Actually, I think Queen Noor is either the former queen or the queen mother, because she's now widowed.

A big part of that is that the media here pay no attention whatsoever to these families, and one wonders why, since we were so captivated by Diana and Princess Grace, because they were attractive and photogenic, yet those Royal Princesses in the Scandinavian countries are real stunners!  And we just love looking at pretty people!

  11. I am not sure why either as the Queen does not even play a role in USA politics but here in Canada she did but no longer plays a role of ruling but is above the Senate. I have been to the UK and yea they do not play any stories much on media about Canada compared to the amount of stories and even long events of the Royal family played here. I think it is a bit much as there are many Royalty families in other countries that are just as superior and wealthy or wealthier. I have no idea really why Canada is obsessed with it. We even have that magazine Hello, which is only about the UK lol...
