Why are Americans so fascinated with the monarchs?

I think its just  plain curiosity about the green grass on the other side of the fence, and it's not always greener.

Actually most americans aren't. We are content with obsessing over celebrities.

Because we don't have one of our own.  But it sounds to you like we were better off fighting to be able to not have one...

because we cause monarchies to be obsolete, and the ones who are so fascinated with the royals are bored with their own misserable lives.

I do not feel Americans are fascinated with Monarchs.  I think we remain in a state of disbelief that a country could put complete faith and trust in someone who reigns for their entire life.  Besides with "s*x, scandals, blackmail, adultery, booze, and misbehavior plastered all over the media" we find it hard not be drawn into the world of make believe.

Actually, I don't think we are.  I know I don't care one iota what the monarchs are doing.  I think some people who love the paparazzi and read US Weekly may care, but I think that group is relatively small compared to the total population.

I am not quite sure. For me, and it's very ignorant and naive, but it's the whole "I wanna be a princess" thing. Of course, if I did witness the battle that you mention, my mind would be completely different.
