  1. Well, part of the problem is that in the 1960s, when gas was cheap, the federal and state governments invested billions of dollars in the interstate highway and local street systems, in contrast to Europe which invested in high speed rail and subways.

The sparser population of the US is also a factor.

  2. Wow!  Why didn't I think of that?  I don't need groceries or a life.  Just sit at home and do nothing when I'm not working.  Let my brain rot watching T.V. and sitting in front of the computer.   No thanks.  I don't know how that's been working for you but it's not for me.

  3. NO!

life goes on even if gas prices go up. I just cut back on Blockbuster rentals, trips to McDonalds, fewer pizzas.

  4. I used to drink about 4 beers everytime I went out. Now I just drink 3 so I can pay for the gas to get to and from the bar. Costs about the same and makes me feel a little less like and alcoholic.

Also, we're "in love with cars" because we were raised with cars. I love driving and I'll continue to do so until I no longer can.

I've never cried about gas prices either. I've frowned at them and sighed when the pump rolled past $75, but I've yet to cry over them.

I think you need to get out and go for a drive because you seem to be delusional in your lonely life of work and computer.

  5. Well if that's okay for you and you can cut back great! But not everyone is so fortunate.  What about the people have have someone in the hospital or have to drive a while to get the the grocery store or take their kids to special classes such as tutors, sports, dance, music so their kid will have special experiences that the regular school has cut from their curriculum.  What about on Sunday gas for that trip to church. People aren't just driving around for no reason they are doing things with their time and they need gas to get around.
