Why are Americans such hypocrites criticizing the Chinese girl for lip-synching at the Olympics?

America is the land of Milli Vanilli!

You have all these "artists" produced in a sound studio such as Britney Spears, N'SYNC, Hillary Duff, High School Musical.

Most pop singers lip synch like Madonna, Cher, and SO SO many others.

Americans also lip synch in live events such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on which singers lip-synching while riding floats.

Most singers habitually lip-synch during live performance, both concert and televised events.

I've heard nothing but criticism about the lip synching girl.

How can Americans be such hypocrites, get on a high horse, and criticize China so ferociously about it?

  1. To add to that, this has gone on throughout history.  When the first "talkie" movies came out, a beautiful actress was used, and someone else's voice was dubbed in.  That's because the beautiful actress had a horrible voice, but she had been a star in silent movies.

People who are ignorant are going to criticize ANYTHING that China does that is remotely different.  China is a drastically improved country from where they were 30 years ago.  But all Americans know is the ancient history.

It's funny that the same people who complain that China spent so much money on the Olympics, when that money could have gone to helping the poor people, are the same people who are dead set against Welfare programs in the U.S.  Talk about hypocrites!

Oh - and to the guy who said the american artists use their own voice, I have two words:  Milli Vanilli!  They did not use their own voices.  Also:  Partridge Family, Monkees (originally), etc.

  2. I have a lot of answers for you but I'll stick with just a few. You mention Milli Vanilli as if America lives by them. If you recall, we condemed them. That is why you heard of them. The Partridge Family? OMG. Everyone knows it was lip-syched. It was a silly innocent bubble-gum sitcom just for fun. The albums the Partridge Family sold clearly stated who the real singers were. (Like we really thought 6 year old Tracy had the voice of a 30 year old, NOT)

Ok, maybe one more. As others posted, this is a universal thing. You call America hypocritical but you are no better in minimizing this to just America.

Lip synching is wrong ONLY when the audience is led to believe it's real. When we watch floats in a parade, we'd be stupid to believe it's real. Half the entertainment is dancing. How are they gonna sing a song decent if they are out of breath???? Answer: lip-synching.

  3. It has more to do with the treatment of the little girl that China deems, "too ugly" to be seen in public than the actual lip sync. When in those situations that American artists lip-sync they do so to their own voice and not lie with a stand in artist.

The last time in the Super Bowl when no lip sync occurred was 2008 as they do sing live (most artists) during half time.

  4. Um, we Americans ripped apart Ashley Simpson when we found she was lip-syncing too. People do it, but we aren't happy about it. I love singing, so I am against it, and I would NOT lip sync myself! I don't go to concerts for this reason :)

  5. It's really unprofessional of the Chinese Government if the news regarding they picked the girl to lip synch just because of her good looks, when she can't sing at all. They (Chinese Government) just shove away the girl who has the talent to sing but because she's not "Cute enough"  and she will give a bad impression of the Chinese people because she's not "cute" so they decided that she couldn't sing for the opening of the Olympics and just used her voice instead. If that's true, than shame on them (the Chinese Government).

this is the Chinese Government we are talking, they are the one who "choose" that girl who "can't sing" to lip synch and just shove the "other one" away, because their Government doesn't think it's good to the eyes of the world. They (Chinese Government) want people of the world at the Olympics to have the impression that Chinese people are "cute" and "charming", they don't want to show the flaws, when flaws are normal and this is the Chinese Government who made the decision.

At least in the USA, it's only the big companies like Disney who has that kinda mind set and not the USA Government.

  6. PRINCE!!!!!

  7. we don't like it because, we feel sorry for the girl who actually did sing. i'd hate to be told, you can sing at the olympics because you aren't ute enough

  8. Yeah, but as a rule, those who lip synch in performances here are doing it over their own real singing.  That little girl was synching over another child's singing.  Done because the singer wasn't cute enough? I find that offensive.

  9. I am guess it isn't so much the lip syncing....it is that it wasn't even the little girl singing...One little girl cute, the other one a good singer, they basically told both of them they weren't good enough....

  10. you know i think it's wrong to tell someone you can not be seen because your not pretty especially a child. Do you have no heart?

would you think it's fair to tell someone you can't go to school because of their appearance, race, or nationality. It amazes be how people are so hearth less.

  11. Just don't generalize, OK? The lip sync was criticized all over the world and it wasn't everybody.

    Chill.

    Peace.

  12. maybe because we didn't do it at the Olympics.  and it isn't just americans, get the h**l over yourself, when somebody or something does something shady then they are going to hear about it, not just from the US but the rest of the world as well.
