Why are Asians are poorly portrayed in media?

How come on TV that Asians are always portrayed as a nerdy, perverted, anime-loving people, marital artist. i always see the Asian men looking weak and the women always a sexual tool. With some of Jackie Chan (he comes close), Jet Li movies, I never see them have some type of romance. In some movies I never see them acting out of the out of the stereotype. Why is that?
