Why are Bill Gates, the Rockefeller Foundation, Monsanto and Syngenta funding a seed bank?

Is this a sign for us to know that the end is coming. I do not mean to sound apocalyptic but d**n.

Because there is little genetic variety in agricultural goods these days.  Most farm products are the same strain of seeds and many heirloom and rare types of plants are at risk of dying out because they are not as high-yield as the commercial types.  This way, if a disease starts to wipe out certain crops, we'll have a place where we've saved seeds of other types of that crop and try to grow a different type of corn or potato or whatever and introduce more genetic diversity.

They will contaminate the worlds seed supply with all the GMOs they are releasing, they want to keep a pure supply to work with.
